Focus on Three Key Emerging Sectors

On March 25, 2024, NSK held a grand ceremony in Huaqiao Economic Development Zone, Kunshan, Jiangsu, China, to announce the official launch of Phase II of its China Headquarters and R&D Center. The newly completed Phase II project covers 18.5 mu (approximately 12,333 square meters), with a total construction area of 21,000 square meters. Equipped with state-of-the-art experimental and testing instruments, the facility integrates IoT, big data, and other next-generation information technologies, aiming to build a digitalized R&D platform.
During the inauguration ceremony, Guoping Yu, Executive Officer of NSK Ltd. and President of NSK China, remarked:
"Since establishing our first factory in Kunshan in 1995, NSK has always regarded China as a core part of our global strategy. In 2009, we relocated our China headquarters to Huaqiao and built our largest R&D center outside Japan. The launch of Phase II today further underscores our long-term commitment to the Chinese market."
Focus on Three Key Emerging Sectors
The new R&D center will primarily focus on three cutting-edge fields:
1. Smart Mobility – Developing high-performance electric drive bearings, intelligent steering systems, and other critical components.
2. Low-Altitude Economy – Providing specialized bearing solutions for drones, eVTOLs, and other next-generation aerial vehicles.
3. Humanoid Robotics – Researching high-precision reducer bearings, joint modules, and other core components.
"We will accelerate localized innovation and introduce more technologies and products tailored to the Chinese market," Yu added.
Strengthening NSK’s Industry Leadership in China
As Japan’s first bearing manufacturer, founded in 1916, NSK has consistently ranked among the top three global bearing companies. In China, NSK has established a comprehensive industrial layout. The newly inaugurated Phase II R&D Center will further enhance NSK’s technological innovation capabilities in the country. Over the next three years, NSK plans to expand its R&D team by 50% and achieve an annual 30% increase in patent applications.
Industry experts note that the launch of NSK’s Phase II R&D Center will not only strengthen the company’s technological presence in China but also drive the coordinated development of high-end equipment manufacturing in the Yangtze River Delta region, playing a crucial role in elevating China’s overall bearing industry standards.
