Shanghai, January 7, 2026 — C&U Corporation, a leading Chinese bearing manufacturer, has officially commenced construction of its Global Bearing Research & Development Headquarters and High-End Bearing Intelligent Manufacturing Project in Pujiang Town, Minhang District, Shanghai. The project represents a total planned investment of more than RMB 10 billion, aiming to strengthen domestic capabilities in high-end bearing technologies and advanced manufacturing.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by senior officials and industry representatives, including Wu Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the Minhang District Party Committee and District Mayor; Han Dadong, Second-Level Inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization; Zhou Yu, Chairman of the China Bearing Industry Association; and Zhang Tongsheng, Chairman of C&U Corporation.
The project is designed to address key technological challenges in high-end bearings and to establish an integrated industrial ecosystem combining a global R&D hub with a “super intelligent factory.” It will focus on three core application areas: robotics, automotive systems, and rail transportation, where demand for high-precision and high-reliability bearings is growing rapidly. By introducing digitalized and intelligent production technologies, the new facilities are expected to support a shift toward higher precision, greater reliability, and improved efficiency in bearing manufacturing.
According to the project plan, the development will be implemented in two phases on a total land area of approximately 356 mu (about 23.7 hectares). Phase I, which has now begun, covers 146 mu and involves an investment of more than RMB 5.3 billion. It will include the construction of super intelligent factories for robot bearings and automotive bearings, with completion and commissioning expected within three years. Phase II is scheduled to begin in 2029 and will comprise the global bearing R&D headquarters, a rail transit bearing super intelligent factory, and a 24/7 global service center, forming a full-chain layout spanning R&D, intelligent manufacturing, and global services.
C&U stated that preparatory work such as due diligence, auditing, and evaluation is currently progressing in an orderly manner.
The launch of this large-scale project comes at the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026–2030). Industry observers note that the investment aligns with Shanghai’s strategy to build a high-end equipment manufacturing hub and is expected to stimulate coordinated development across the upstream and downstream supply chain. Once completed, the project is anticipated to enhance Shanghai’s role in the global bearing industry while supporting high-quality regional economic growth.
